Walker and Nyx both voted we should go investigate the druid. So off we go!

Well, no sooner do we set foot onto the wooden planks over the marsh than our old friend Sindarel comes running up, telling us we shouldn't go further. I helpfully remind him we're searching for the old druid. Sindarel repeats there are monsters at large here that the druid kept at bay.

He says he'll come back with a warband to cut through to him. Guess what the odds are of us ever seeing them? Useless NPCs are useless. Team SMTDR is doing this on its own! He says we should wait, but, duh, what kind of adventurers would we be if we just waited for a band of elves to come do the work?

You know, Sindarel must have an incredible amount of ranks in Move Silently, because no more than a few squares into the place, we were set on by some goblin archers.

There were more of those capstans to hit. Walker and Eden took care of those. There was a bugbear waiting by one of them. He didn't move. Weird. Walker, Eden, and Andi just whittled away at his health from afar.

Battling without projectiles here would be a pain in the ass because of the narrow paths. Impossible to flank.

Also: Traps were introduced! Andi found one and earned the party 50 XP for it.

That bugbear proved to be difficult, holed up with only a one-square entryway to get to him. Andi's Mind Thrust did him in, finally. At least nobody died this time! (I was knocked unconscious, but Nyx was there to heal me.)

Well, past that point there was a henge with runes! Nyx said she could read them. (the translator XD) Funny thing, it's always the person in party slot 2. One playthrough it was a Barbarian. That was funny. Here's how that went down in my headspace:

Barbarian: "I can read them."
Main (also a Barbarian): "You can't even read Common!"

I wish they'd check for class ingame for that. Because that would have been great.

Anyway, Nyx reads the runes and says the henge is a memorial that mentions something called "The Saendering", that an ancient war to the north once destroyed a great kingdom. It warns that there is evil in the mountains, in the "bones of the gods", and that all that survives is the ancient dragon home, a place named Aharadum.

HEY GUYS I BET 50 GP WE WIND UP GOING THERE!

Naturally, past the henge are more battles, this time...with a lot of enemies. Our archers were lagging behind so it was up to the rest of us for the most part.

Thankfully, there was a lot more ground to work with. Unfortunately, one of the enemies was a fiend spider, and it coated much of the open ground with webbing, making movement painfully difficult. The thing was a real pain. High movement and damage output...thankfully low AC. Walker took care of it while I kept it distracted by stepping away every turn and luring it out from behind cover.

Past some more bridges, there were a couple of wolves. Weird, like the ones the rogues kept as pets?

Past them...

We find the druid's corpse, decapitated.

We see the werewolf who did it running off-field with the severed head, leaving us to deal with his wolf friends. Andi points out this means he can't be resurrected. So much for asking him about Athearorn. But now we know why the goblins and their friends were able to get to Elerin.

Well, that was...useless.

Except the XP! Everyone gained a level!

Our options now are:

- Go see the witch (Recommended 3rd level)
- Go see the Svernkaegro family (recommended 4th level)

Our party is:

Cherry (LG Human Paladin 4th level)
Nyx (N Elf Cleric 4th level)
Andi (CN Human Psion 4th level)
Walker (NG Human Fighter 4th level)
Icy (LE Halfling Monk 4th level)
Eden (CG Half-Elf Bard 4th level)

Where to, adventurers?

Go see the witch, because nothing is more fun than being overleveled for something!

Also because bothering the druid didn't pan out so I want to see some witch-bothering.

Team SMTDR shall become caster-botherers!
