Stairs. Endless stairs. Step, step, step, landing, step, step, step…
A Messian blocks his way. He doesn’t check for weapons, just draws his sword and cuts him down. There are no bystanders, this is a war zone. He nudges the body aside. Cuts down an angel in his way, too. Nods to a fellow Gaian heading down.
He’s only going through the motions.
He had trusted Rie. Thought he meant something to her.
He’s still weak.
Step, step, step. Climb the Cathedral, climb to more power.
Catches a glimpse of Kazuya on the ground floor, Beelzebub’s giant form trailing him and Yuka. Smirks beneath his mask. Smirks even though Lilith’s deceit still burns hot in his stomach. It’s his fault anyway, his fault for being weak enough to give his heart away.
But Kazuya’s always been a good friend. He’ll follow.
Step, step, step. Kazuya stops to kill the Seraphim. He moves on, upwards. Michael is the only one that matters.
Angels are stupid. They rely so much on their hierarchy that disturbing it utterly derails them. Take out the Dominion in a party of lesser Divines and watch the entire group suffer. Too easy. Take out their general, take out Michael, and their whole plan is ruined. Too easy. Way too easy.
Step, step, step.
There are no more steps. There’s the door. But Kazuya has the ring to open it. He’ll wait.
He, Kazuya, and Yuka. Together, they will triumph over the angels and their master. They will be the strongest.
Just wait.
