Here is my current El Shaddai game log:
First play: Easy. I wanted to get back into the platforming groove without having to worry about combat at all.
Second play: Normal, no costume. This was a muse-play for warriorscribe. Muse-plays are kind of fun because they force you to break from your own style. It's kind of like being a player and a spectator all at once. Enoch-muse takes a much different approach than I do, and our favored styles work best with weapons that absolutely suck in the other's style. (Gale for me, Arch for him.) (If you don't know what a muse-play is and my context still leaves it unclear: You know how when you RP with a muse you obviously consider how they would act and not you? Yeah. That, with the game.)
(I messed around with chapter select a bit here, confused me into thinking I have five plays under my belt when I don't.)
Third play: Easy, special costume(no costume for chapters 7-8). Messing around with damage null and watching the way bosses behave. Also had a "final sparring match" with Armaros, reverting to normal armor for fairness and letting him break my weapon, playing the whole battle unarmed. It was a long battle, but very fun.
Fourth play: Hard, Dark costume. That'll teach me to jump straight from Easy to Hard. Augh, I haven't died this often even in Megaten games. But I got into some kind of groove after chapter 3, with some clear setbacks every so often.
Fifth (current) play: Normal, no costume. Now I'm just playing for the hell of it. Might make it another muse-play to keep Enoch-muse's battle voice fresh in my mind. I've been playing cautious for too long.
Give me a character or two (optional), a canon or RP I know, and a prompt. I will write whatever comes to mind, be it a fic, a drabble, a poem, whatever. Please note that I may ask you to change one of these if I'm not familiar enough with the variable in question.
I'm stuck in front of a closed campus for the next 4 hours because I never got the memo that the school canceled Saturday classes before Labor Day as well.
In other news:
We...kind of wound up breaking Enoch-muse (yes I have an Enoch muse) last night in MSN. And then things got creepy because he started describing what it felt like to be close to the vileness in the Darkness stages and HAVE YOU LISTENED TO THE DARKNESS STAGE MUSIC WITH HEADPHONES? IT IS THE CREEPIEST SHIT EVER AND I DON'T EVEN GET CREEPED OUT BY SILENT HILL.
I am not surprised that Enoch has storytelling talent. He wasn't really trying, he was just going for creeping us out in a sort of "you think you're scared of that? You're the ones safe on the other side of that screen!" kind of way.
Thankfully the breaking didn't happen in canon so the muse is okay. But holy shit, man.
EDIT: Also there is something making beeping noises inside the campus even though there's no one inside. o_O

Pairings: Mastema/Zelenin (adarkerangel/secular_saint)
Warnings: Uh. A bit angsty? Otherwise none.
Summary: The heightened tension after the Mall's Conception brings Mastema face to face with renewed guilt and some of his difficulties with communication.
Notes: So this was originally gonna be a summary of SJ from Mastema's perspective (as relating to Zelenin). But the muse realized how pathetic he was being. So...yay?
They have gathered here, waiting for questions to come their way.
The people on the other side will supply them. The questions may concern anything at all, in-character, backstory, meta, whatever can come to their minds. They only need ask in a reply to this post, and the interview will commence. They will be compelled to answer every question, regardless of how uncomfortable it may be.
...Strangely, he wasn't very tough this time around. He only ever used Big Bang, Diarama, and Dekunda when I managed to get him to -4.
It was like he was letting me win. Not a Heaven Strike or a Mamudoon to be seen.
Anyway. He has a DR post now. Yay?

Characters: Zelenin(secular_saint) (framing device), Mastema(adarkerangel)
Summary: Mastema recounts, through a letter to Zelenin, the moment he lost empathy for humankind.
( Under the cut, if I can get this thing to behave. )
It kind of makes me sad that this person, presumably a fellow RPer, has never internalized a voice before.
I'm gonna use a bad example but bear with me.
When Stephenie Meyer said her cast was like people living in her head, she was most certainly not telling the truth, but it was something a "good" writer should say. I'm certain she heard it somewhere and felt it could help her image. (Incidentally, I do believe her when she said Jacob was her first character that "came to life" for her. He felt real and believable in those segments, but more on that later, maybe.)
See, when we write for a character, we're basically predicting what they do in certain situations. If you do this enough with a single character, it becomes effortless ("enough" varies among characters and writers. Some come to life in a single day, others take years. Some never do.). We don't have to think about it consciously. So it feels like they're a separate entity, which is why we call this "coming to life".
At this point, it is still possible to be OOC. After all, you're still the one writing, and it's entirely possible to misunderstand the muse (or in more mundane terms, your intuition regarding the character), inadvertently "filter" what's happening, or, if the writer is particularly immature, plain not like where they're headed and deliberately derail them, even if this is just as unconscious as writing for the character has become. (As Meyer did with Jacob. He was becoming entirely too likable, and had too real a chemistry with Bella, and she didn't want anything in the way of her precious OTP.)
I understand that on the internet, a distinction must be made because there are crazies out there who actually think they're bonded to or are the "real" character on the astral plane or something (I wonder how they handle someone else playing the same character!), but nitpicking over our phrasing is not the way to make that distinction. I'm sure a person can tell for themselves if someone is crazy or not.
When we say a muse is quiet, it means that we are not inspired for them or that our subconscious hold on their voice is slipping and we're not putting forth the effort (not that making an extra effort usually helps in these situations because it's usually due to a lack of inspiration and "forcing" a voice can all too often end in suck).
When I say a muse "pings"...well. I don't know about the rest of you. But what I do when I RP - when I predict what they'll do - I do in real life. Constantly. I always have a muse or two "watching" me so I keep a feel for their voice fresh in my mind. So since I have muses constantly watching what I'm doing in meta, basically, they indicate that something will happen or that they are interested. Or, in practical terms, I predict that they predict they will be affected or interested. Confused yet? It's a bit confusing to relate.
In short, we writers may say they're like people living in our heads, but the operative word there is like. We may or may not omit that word, but it is always implied. We realize they're fictional, and treat them as such. All we mean by that is that we have gained an understanding of them to the point that we no longer have to consciously think about what they would want or do, so they seem autonomous.
...And then I realized. I wouldn't be able to design a single Shadow and dungeon that would encompass all of Mastema's self issues. He would take like...three Shadows to get them all. Maybe two if I'm clever. The one I picked was the most relevant issue at the time he jumped into the TV. XD;
Pick a character I write, and I will give you the top few/several ideas/concepts/other I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to depicting them accurately. Includes both fandom and original characters.
And watch me fail. XD
bathhouse_boss: Satake is a mob boss who hangs out in the bathhouse.
fightsinheels: Hiroko...fights in heels. Seriously, go look.
livesbytheword: Izumi, uh. Yeah. Messian preacher.
savior_of_souls: What Takumi calls himself. ("souls" meaning "ghosts" or "earthbound spirits")
dreamrocksynth: Shinichi wears red dreamrock armor and aspires to synthesis.
crackingvoice: Metatron is the Voice of God and he's...well, he was slowly losing his grip on his sanity due to his AU. But the Mall has provided ample time to recover.
regainedvirtue: He's a Virtue and is ex-Yosuga, and he's well...regained virtuous qualities after deciding that, I don't know, killing innocent people is wrong.
chairhaswings: A Devil Children-style Principality, whose...chair has wings.
human_enough: He's a demi-fiend, but he's apparently human enough to produce some magatsuhi (which he uses to feed his demon party).
metafiend: Kenta is a demi-fiend who's noticed all the video game tropes his world is suddenly running on.
onlysaneseraph: Gabriel, in SMT2, is pretty much just that - Uriel, Raphael, and Michael are nuts.
first_halfdemon: Just what it sounds like, Chaos Hero was the first half-demon in the franchise. (I think)
untrueblue: A play on "true blue" - since the color of Law in SJ is blue - and Rio's reluctance to follow the Law endgame.
middle_route: Neutral tends to fall in the middle when listing the alignments. Also when depicting the alignments on a scale, Neutral is by definition in the middle.
adarkerangel: Mastema both has a darker personality and purpose (he's the guy sent to kill people) than most angels, as well as being the only angel aside from Lailah who has black wings.
pacifistbrat: Charles doesn't like to battle and he is a brat.
